Sasmuan – a town in Pampanga

Sasmuan - is used to be called “Sexmoan”, later on was named “Sasmuan” from the Kapampangan words Sasa - one kind of bamboo which are abundant in the place and Pitabmuan meaning meeting place, because based on history Sasmuan became the assembly place of the Kapampangan Soldiers before they attacked the Chinese rebels who stayed in Guagua. In present times, the town of Sasmuan is very popular because of the assorted delicacy products that entered the global market. The main source of livelihood is depends on fishery resources because the town itself is in the midst of rivers, fish ponds and streams. The Santa Lucia Church is one of the oldest churches built in the Philippines by the Augustinian priest with single belfry sandwiched by the church and the convent. It is where the annual “Kuraldal Festival” is celebrated. The people believe that in participating in the parade dance will be blessed by Saint Lucia and grant their petition, especially to those women who do not bear a child.
