Singkil – a dance that originated in Lanao del Sur in Mindanao. Singkil is
said to be a royalty Muslim dance. Singkil dance from the name itself
meaning to entangle the feet from any interrupting objects.
Singkil is dance through the rhythmic clapping of bamboo poles. The
dancers perform with solemnity on their faces showing dignified pose from
slow pace to faster tempo of the sounds. The lead Muslim woman dancer is
wearing an elegant dress, steps in and out of the criss-crossed bamboo poles
while manipulating a fan. The male dancers are flipping their scarf side by
side.
